Vessels, devices and process units for treatment and processing facilities of oil and gas containing hydrogen sulfide and causing corrosion cracking. Specifications
Full title and description
STO 00220575.063-2005 — Vessels, devices and process units for treatment and processing facilities of oil and gas containing hydrogen sulfide and causing corrosion cracking. Technical requirements. (Russian: Сосуды, аппараты и блоки технологические установок подготовки и переработки нефти и газа, содержащих сероводород и вызывающих коррозионное растрескивание. Технические требования.)
Abstract
This organizational standard specifies technical requirements for the design, manufacture, testing and acceptance of pressure vessels, apparatus and technological units used in oil and gas treatment and processing plants when the process environment contains hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and may cause hydrogen‑induced corrosion cracking. It defines applicability thresholds (H2S partial pressure) and references required normative documents for materials, welding, non‑destructive testing and fabrication.
General information
- Status: Active (in force).
- Publication date: Introduced 05 December 2005; approved 29 November 2005; accepted by regulatory body (Rostekhnadzor) in November 2005.
- Publisher: Organizational standard developed by OAO VNIINEFTEMASH in cooperation with DOAO CKBN (Gazprom). Issued as an STO (organizational/company standard).
- ICS / categories: Oil & gas industry equipment; pressure vessels and process units; corrosion and sour‑service materials and fabrication (sour service / H2S environments).
- Edition / version: STO 00220575.063-2005 (2005 edition).
- Number of pages: 22 pages (electronic PDF available).
Scope
The standard applies to vessels, apparatus and technological blocks designed and manufactured in accordance with OST 26.291 and OST 26.260.18, intended to operate in media containing hydrogen sulfide with a partial pressure equal to or greater than 0.0003 MPa and that cause corrosion cracking. The standard does not apply to equipment operating in media with H2S partial pressure below 0.0003 MPa or in other non‑sour environments.
Key topics and requirements
- Definition of applicability categories for vessels, apparatus and process units exposed to H2S (threshold: H2S partial pressure ≥ 0.0003 MPa).
- Design and construction requirements referencing OST 26.291, OST 26.260.18 and related normative documents.
- Material selection and special requirements for sour service resistance (materials, heat treatment, selection of two‑layer/bimetallic constructions where applicable).
- Welding, surfacing and fabrication rules for sour‑service equipment; qualifications of welding procedures and welders.
- Non‑destructive testing (radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle and other methods) and acceptance criteria for welded joints and components.
- Surface finish, flanges, fasteners and other component requirements relevant to sour‑service integrity.
- References to specific GOST, OST and RD documents that govern testing, materials and inspection for sour‑service equipment.
Typical use and users
Primary users are designers and manufacturers of pressure vessels, apparatus and process modules for oil and gas treatment and refining plants operating in sour (H2S‑containing) environments; engineering procurement and construction (EPC) companies; inspection and certification bodies; plant operators and maintenance organizations responsible for safe fabrication, delivery and operation of sour‑service equipment in Russia and organizations adopting Russian STOs.
Related standards
STO 00220575.063-2005 references and is related to a number of GOST, OST and RD documents, including (but not limited to): OST 26.291 (general requirements for welded vessels and apparatus), OST 26.260.18 (technological blocks for gas and oil industry), RD 26-02-63-87 (technical requirements for design and fabrication of equipment operating in H2S environments) and multiple GOSTs covering welding consumables, NDT methods, pipes and flanges. It is often used alongside Gazprom STOs and other regional/regulatory documents for sour‑service equipment.

FAQ
Q: What is this standard?
A: STO 00220575.063-2005 is an organizational/company standard that sets technical requirements for pressure vessels, apparatus and technological blocks used in oil and gas treatment and processing plants when exposed to hydrogen sulfide (H2S) environments that can cause corrosion cracking.
Q: What does it cover?
A: It covers applicability criteria (including an H2S partial pressure threshold of 0.0003 MPa), design and construction requirements, material selection for sour service, welding and fabrication rules, and inspection and testing (NDT) requirements, together with references to supporting GOST/OST/RD normative documents.
Q: Who typically uses it?
A: Designers, manufacturers and fabricators of oil and gas processing equipment, EPC contractors, plant operators and inspection/certification bodies working with sour‑service equipment (especially within organizations that follow Russian organizational standards and Gazprom‑related STOs).
Q: Is it current or superseded?
A: As listed in Russian standards databases this STO is shown as active (in force). It was introduced in December 2005 and replaces earlier RD guidance (RD 26-02-63-87) for the subject equipment; users should check current national/regulatory registries for any later revisions or replacements before applying the standard.
Q: Is it part of a series?
A: It is issued as an STO (organizational standard) and is associated with other OST/STO documents covering welded vessels, blocks and fabrication practices for the oil & gas industry (for example OST 26.291, OST 26.260.18 and other Gazprom/STO documents addressing sour‑service equipment).
Q: What are the key keywords?
A: Vessels, apparatus, process units, hydrogen sulfide (H2S), sour service, corrosion cracking, welding, materials, non‑destructive testing, STO.
