Full title and description
ISO 6150:2018 — Pneumatic fluid power — Cylindrical quick-action couplings for maximum working pressures of 1 MPa, 1,6 MPa and 2,5 MPa (10 bar, 16 bar and 25 bar) — Plug connecting dimensions, specifications, application guidelines and testing. This edition specifies dimensional criteria, tolerances, application guidance and the tests to be applied to plugs and their mating sockets to ensure interchangeability of pneumatic quick-action coupling plugs.
Abstract
This International Standard specifies plug connecting dimensions and tolerances to ensure interchangeability of pneumatic quick-action coupling plugs for use at maximum working pressures of 1 MPa, 1,6 MPa and 2,5 MPa (10, 16 and 25 bar). It gives specifications, application guidelines and defines tests to be applied to plugs together with sockets. The construction and dimensions of sockets are left to the manufacturer's option and the document applies only to dimensional criteria, not to functional characteristics. Quick-action couplings with shut-off valves for welding, cutting and related processes are covered by ISO 7289 and therefore excluded from this document.
General information

- Number of pages: 15 pages.
Scope
Applies to cylindrical quick-action couplings intended for pneumatic fluid power systems with maximum working pressures of 1 MPa, 1,6 MPa and 2,5 MPa (10 bar, 16 bar and 25 bar). The standard defines plug connecting dimensions and tolerances to ensure interchangeability, provides specifications and application guidance, and specifies the tests to be applied to plugs together with sockets. It covers only dimensional criteria of products manufactured in accordance with the document and does not prescribe functional characteristics; sockets’ construction and dimensions are left to manufacturer choice. Couplings with shut-off valves for welding/cutting equipment are excluded (see ISO 7289).
Key topics and requirements
- Defined plug connecting dimensions and tolerances to ensure interchangeability of coupling plugs.
- Classification for maximum working pressures: 1 MPa, 1,6 MPa and 2,5 MPa (10, 16 and 25 bar).
- Specifications and application guidelines for safe and consistent use in pneumatic systems.
- Required tests for plugs together with sockets (test procedures and acceptance criteria for dimensional conformity, sealing and mechanical durability are included).
- Manufacturer option: socket construction and dimensions are not mandated by this standard.
- Exclusions and cross-reference: couplings with shut‑off valves for welding, cutting and related processes are covered by ISO 7289.
Typical use and users
Used by pneumatic component manufacturers, product designers, OEMs, quality and test laboratories, procurement and maintenance teams to specify, produce and verify quick‑action coupling plugs that are interchangeable and suitable for the stated working pressures. Also used by regulatory and conformity-assessment bodies when dimensional interchangeability is required.
Related standards
Standards commonly referenced alongside ISO 6150 include ISO 7289 (quick-action couplings with shut-off valves for welding and cutting equipment) and other ISO/TC 131 publications and national standards on pneumatic components and testing methods; users should consult their national adoption (for example BS ISO 6150) and relevant ISO/TC 131 subcommittee publications for complementary test and safety requirements.

FAQ
Q: What is this standard?
A: ISO 6150:2018 is an International Standard that specifies plug connecting dimensions, tolerances, specifications, application guidance and tests for cylindrical quick-action pneumatic couplings intended for maximum working pressures of 1 MPa, 1,6 MPa and 2,5 MPa (10, 16 and 25 bar).
Q: What does it cover?
A: It covers dimensional criteria (plug connecting dimensions and tolerances), application guidelines and tests for plugs used with sockets. It does not mandate socket construction nor address functional characteristics beyond dimensional conformity. Couplings with shut-off valves for welding/cutting are excluded (ISO 7289 covers those).
Q: Who typically uses it?
A: Manufacturers of pneumatic quick‑action couplings and mating components, product designers and engineers, test laboratories, quality managers, procurement teams and standards organisations responsible for specifying or verifying dimensional interchangeability in pneumatic systems.
Q: Is it current or superseded?
A: The 2018 edition (Edition 2) is the current published version replacing the 1988 edition. The standard is listed as published/confirmed in the ISO catalogue (review cycle applies as per ISO procedures).
Q: Is it part of a series?
A: ISO 6150 is part of the body of ISO standards for pneumatic fluid power and quick‑action couplings; it is maintained under ISO/TC 131/SC 4 and is related to other ISO and national standards addressing couplings, fittings and test methods (for example ISO 7289 for shut‑off valve couplings).
Q: What are the key keywords?
A: Quick-action coupling, cylindrical coupling, plug dimensions, interchangeability, pneumatic fluid power, 10 bar, 16 bar, 25 bar, ISO 6150.
