Flanges for valves, fittings and pipelines for pressure to PN 250. Design, dimensions and general technical requirements
Full title and description
ГОСТ 33259-2015 — "Фланцы арматуры, соединительных частей и трубопроводов на номинальное давление до PN 250. Конструкция, размеры и общие технические требования" (English title: "Flanges for valves, fittings and pipelines for pressure to PN 250. Design, dimensions and general technical requirements"). The standard establishes types, design and dimensional series for steel and cast‑iron flanges used on valves, fittings, pipeline elements and equipment for nominal pressures up to PN 250, and sets technical requirements for manufacture, marking, testing and control.
Abstract
Interstate (GOST) standard that harmonizes flange types, sealing face forms, dimensions and acceptance requirements for flange connections up to PN 250. It is aligned with ISO 7005 parts for steel and cast‑iron flanges and replaces a number of earlier national GOST flange documents. The document contains normative tables of dimensions, recommendations for material selection, marking and test/inspection provisions, plus annexes with sealing face executions, order forms, mass tables and comparative designation tables.

The standard was prepared by ZAO NPF "Central Design Bureau for Valve Engineering" (НПФ "ЦКБА").
- ICS / categories: 23.040.60 — Flanges, couplings and joints.
- Edition / version: GOST 33259‑2015 (first edition 2015) with amendment Change N 1 (registered 31 Jan 2024; introduced 01 Jun 2024 in the Russian edition).
- Number of pages: Approximately 100–105 pages (official printed edition commonly shown as about 101 pages; some distributed copies list 105 pages depending on cover/foreword pagination).
Scope
The standard applies to connecting flanges of pipeline valves, connecting parts and pipelines, and also to connecting flanges of machines, equipment, instruments, nozzles, vessels and tanks with nominal pressures up to PN 250. It specifies the construction and dimensions of steel and cast‑iron flanges; defines flange types and sealing‑face forms; and sets technical requirements for manufacture, material selection, marking, testing, inspection, packaging, transport and storage. It provides recommendations for selecting flange and fastener materials and for choosing sealing‑face types depending on the hazard class and parameters of the working medium.
Key topics and requirements
- Definition of flange types and execution/designation system (multiple types including welded, loose, lap, clamp types and others).
- Dimensional tables for sealing faces and overall flange geometry across DN and PN ranges up to PN 250.
- Forms and finishes of sealing surfaces (various face profiles and their recommended uses depending on medium hazard and pressure).
- Material recommendations for steel and cast‑iron flanges and guidance on selection of bolting/fasteners for flange joints.
- Manufacturing tolerances, surface roughness limits, marking, inspection and acceptance criteria.
- Requirements for testing (visual, dimensional, mechanical/chemical checks as applicable) and quality control procedures.
- Annexes: recommended sealing‑face executions, order form template, mass tables, comparative tables with superseded GOST designations, and flange passport form.
Typical use and users
Used by flange and valve manufacturers, piping and pressure‑equipment designers, pipeline and plant engineers, procurement/specification teams, quality/inspection personnel, and certification bodies. Typical application sectors include oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, district heating, water supply and other industries requiring standardized flange connections for pressures up to PN 250.
Related standards
The standard takes into account and is aligned with ISO 7005‑1:2011 (steel flanges) and ISO 7005‑2:1988 (cast‑iron flanges). It replaced a series of older national GOST documents (e.g., GOST 12815–12822 series). The document also references other relevant GOST/GOST‑R standards for materials, corrosion protection and testing methods.

FAQ
Q: What is this standard?
A: An interstate (GOST) standard that defines design, dimensions and general technical requirements for flanges used on valves, fittings, pipelines and equipment for nominal pressures up to PN 250.
Q: What does it cover?
A: Types of flanges (steel and cast iron), sealing‑face forms and dimensions, manufacturing tolerances, material and bolting recommendations, marking, testing/inspection, packaging and storage, plus annexes with execution examples, order forms and mass tables.
Q: Who typically uses it?
A: Manufacturers of flanges and valves, piping designers and engineers, plant construction and maintenance teams, procurement/specification authors, quality inspectors and conformity assessment bodies across oil & gas, petrochemical, energy and utility sectors.
Q: Is it current or superseded?
A: Current (in force). Adopted in 2015 and introduced nationally in Russia from 1 April 2016. An amendment (Change N 1) was issued by Rosstandart on 31 January 2024 and introduced into the Russian edition (effective 1 June 2024). It supersedes earlier GOST flange standards from the 1980 series.
Q: Is it part of a series?
A: It is a standalone interstate standard covering flange design and requirements up to PN 250; it references and harmonizes with international standards (ISO 7005 parts) and interacts with other GOST/GOST‑R standards on materials, testing and pressure‑equipment requirements.
Q: What are the key keywords?
A: Flanges; valves; pipelines; PN 250; DN; sealing face; dimensions; marking; testing; ISO 7005; ГОСТ 33259‑2015.
