Mining equipment. Automatic fire fighting systems (for mining). General technical requirements and test methods
Full title and description
GOST R 57052-2016 — Mining equipment. Automatic fire fighting systems (for mining). General technical requirements and test methods. National Russian standard that specifies technical requirements, classification, functional subsystems and test methods for automatic fire-fighting installations intended for underground mine workings, associated surface structures and sites that may be hazardous due to explosive gas and/or dust atmospheres.
Abstract
This standard establishes unified technical requirements and test methods for automatic fire fighting systems (AUP) used in mining (underground workings and related surface buildings). It covers classification of system components and subsystems (detection, logical/control, executive/extinguishing), required characteristics of detectors and actuators, safe-state rules, requirements for different extinguishing media (water, foam, gaseous agents where applicable), requirements for operation in explosive atmospheres and for different climatic categories, and procedures for type and acceptance testing.

- Publication date: Approved 8 September 2016; introduced (effective) 1 June 2017 (reissue recorded July 2019).
- Publisher: Federal Agency on Technical Regulation and Metrology of the Russian Federation (Rosstandart).
- ICS / categories: OKС / ICS: 13.220.10 (Fire-fighting) — related to protection against fire; classification also relates to mining equipment (73.100 series).
- Edition / version: First edition designated by the year 2016 (GOST R 57052-2016); reissued July 2019.
- Number of pages: Approximately 27 (27–28 pages depending on layout/translation).
Scope
The standard applies to newly designed and modernized automatic fire fighting installations intended to localize, extinguish and eliminate fires and to perform automatic fire-alarm functions in underground mine workings (coal and ore mines) and their associated surface buildings, including locations hazardous from explosive gas and/or dust. It may be used as the basis for technical documentation, acceptance testing, certification, and procurement requirements for mining fire-protection equipment.
Key topics and requirements
- Classification and designation of AUP subsystems and components (detection, logical/control, executive devices, medium supply).
- Functional and performance characteristics for fire detectors and fire alarm subsystems used underground.
- Requirements for logical (control) subsystems, including safe-state definitions, signaling and interlocks (e.g., ventilation shutdown, door control, equipment isolation).
- Specification of executive devices and extinguishing subsystems (water, foam, local spray, combined systems) and key hydraulic/foam multiplicity parameters.
- Requirements and limitations for use in explosive atmospheres (gas/dust), including permissible device types and installation practices.
- Climatic and mechanical execution categories (design, storage, transport, and operating temperature/humidity ranges) referenced to ГОСТ 15150 and related standards.
- Documentation, marking, maintenance and inspection requirements; manufacturer and user technical documentation content.
- Type, acceptance and routine test methods and procedures to verify compliance with performance and safety requirements.
- Conformity criteria referencing related national standards for detection, alarm panels, pumps, hoses, valves and foam systems.
Typical use and users
Primary users include mine operators, mining equipment manufacturers, designers of mine ventilation and safety systems, fire-protection equipment suppliers, testing and certification laboratories, regulatory and inspection bodies, and procurement specialists preparing technical specifications for underground fire-protection installations.
Related standards
Typical normative references and related standards cited or relevant to GOST R 57052-2016 include: ГОСТ Р 50680-94 (automatic water fire-fighting installations), ГОСТ Р 50800-95 (automatic foam fire-fighting installations), ГОСТ 12.1.004-91 (fire safety — general requirements), ГОСТ 15150 (climatic design and execution categories), ГОСТ Р 53325 and ГОСТ Р 53326 series (fire detectors and control panels), and other national standards covering pumps, hoses, valves, electrical equipment and explosion-hazard requirements. FAQ
Q: What is this standard?
A: GOST R 57052-2016 is a Russian national standard that sets general technical requirements and test methods for automatic fire fighting installations intended for use in mining environments, especially underground workings and associated surface facilities.
Q: What does it cover?
A: It covers classification of system components and subsystems, performance and functional requirements for detectors, control (logical) subsystems and executive/extinguishing devices, requirements for operation in explosive atmospheres, climatic and mechanical execution, required documentation, and type/acceptance test methods.
Q: Who typically uses it?
A: Mine operators, designers and integrators of mine safety systems, equipment manufacturers, testing and certification bodies, regulatory authorities and procurement teams specifying underground fire-protection systems.
Q: Is it current or superseded?
A: The standard was approved on 8 September 2016 and introduced (effective) on 1 June 2017. It is recorded as in force (first introduced in 2017) and was reissued in July 2019. Users should check national catalogs or Rosstandart announcements for any subsequent amendments or replacements.
Q: Is it part of a series?
A: It is part of the body of mining- and fire-protection-related national standards. It cross-references and complements other GOST/GOST R standards for water- and foam-based automatic installations, detectors and control equipment; therefore it functions within a suite of standards governing mine safety and fire-fighting equipment.
Q: What are the key keywords?
A: Automatic fire fighting systems, mining, underground workings, fire detection, fire alarm, extinguishing systems, foam, sprinkler, test methods, explosion-hazard, AUP, ГОСТ Р 57052-2016.
