Full title and description
GOST R 58908.12-2020 — Industrial systems, installations, equipment and industrial products. Structuring principles and reference designations. Part 12. Capital construction facilities and engineering support systems (Russian: ГОСТ Р 58908.12-2020 «Промышленные системы, установки, оборудование и промышленная продукция. Принципы структурирования и коды. Часть 12. Объекты капитального строительства и системы инженерно‑технического обеспечения»).
Abstract
This standard (adopted on 30 June 2020 and introduced from 1 January 2021) establishes principles for structuring systems and forming code designations for capital construction objects and engineering support systems. It provides classification tables and rules for building reference designations used through planning, design, construction, operation, reconstruction and demolition phases; it is based on ISO 81346‑12:2018.

- Publication date: Approved 30 June 2020; introduced (effective) 1 January 2021.
- Publisher: National standard of the Russian Federation — Federal Agency on Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) / Национальный стандарт РФ.
- ICS / categories: OKS/ICS 91.060.01 (building and construction related classification).
- Edition / version: Edition 2020 (GOST R 58908.12-2020), first national adoption of ISO 81346‑12:2018 provisions.
- Number of pages: 54 pages (typical published text length).
Scope
The standard specifies rules for structuring systems and forming corresponding code designations, and it proposes a classification scheme applicable to creation and operation of capital construction objects and their engineering support systems. It is intended to be used across life‑cycle stages of buildings and structures (site investigation, design, construction, operation, reconstruction, major repair and demolition). The standard is not intended for use as production item identifiers (e.g., part numbers or article numbers).
Key topics and requirements
- Principles of structuring industrial and construction‑related systems for unambiguous reference designations.
- Rules for formation of alphanumeric code designations for classes and objects within capital construction and engineering systems.
- Classification tables and recommended three‑letter class codes (aligned with ISO 81346 family conventions, with some national modifications where noted).
- Application through all lifecycle stages of buildings and engineering systems — planning, design, construction, operation and decommissioning.
- Guidance on interaction with other Russian design/documentation standards (not a replacement for product identification systems such as item/part numbering).
Typical use and users
Used by architects, building and systems engineers, BIM coordinators, project managers, documentation specialists, facility managers and organisations responsible for classification and lifecycle documentation of buildings and engineering systems. Typical applications include project documentation, asset registers, engineering schematics, and interoperability of design and operational information across disciplines.
Related standards
Directly aligned with ISO 81346‑12:2018 (the national text is based on that international part). Related documents and reference points include other parts of the ISO/IEC/ISO 81346 family (structuring and reference designation principles), Russian standards governing project documentation and electrical schematic designation (for example, ГОСТ 2.710‑81 and ГОСТ R 21.101‑2020 are referenced in practical application guidance).

FAQ
Q: What is this standard?
A: GOST R 58908.12‑2020 is the Russian national standard adopting the structuring principles and reference designation rules of ISO 81346‑12 for capital construction facilities and engineering support systems.
Q: What does it cover?
A: It covers rules and classification tables for forming unambiguous code designations (reference designations) for buildings, structures and their engineering systems, and gives guidance for use across the project and asset lifecycle; it explicitly excludes use as product/part identification numbers.
Q: Who typically uses it?
A: Designers, engineers, BIM and documentation specialists, project and facility managers — anyone involved in producing or maintaining structured reference documentation for buildings and engineering systems.
Q: Is it current or superseded?
A: As published (2020) and introduced 1 January 2021, the standard is current/in force (Действует) at the time of publication and represents the national adoption of ISO 81346‑12:2018 provisions. Users should check national catalogues or Rosstandart registers for any later amendments or revisions.
Q: Is it part of a series?
A: Yes — it is one part of the ISO 81346 / GOST R 58908 family covering structuring principles and reference designations; other parts address broader classification and designation rules for industrial systems and equipment.
Q: What are the key keywords?
A: Structuring principles, reference designations, classification, capital construction, engineering systems, ISO 81346‑12, GOST R 58908.
